Are your mums at risk from burn out?

Do you know how many of the mums in your organisation are at risk from burn out?

How do you spot them?

You could look for signs. Although mums are experts at looking like they’re coping, no matter what.

You could ask them. Although mums put their own needs so far down the list that they don’t always realise what’s going on until it’s too late.

You could reasonably expect them to raise it as an issue. Although mums are likely to feel that they’re simply failing and not even realise there’s an issue.

The truth is the mums in your organisation are either at risk from burn out, are dealing with burn out or are recovering from burn out.

That’s not necessarily a reflection on you or your organisation. The multi layered challenges mums face today combined with the natural instincts of a mother and lack of understanding how to make the challenge of a working mums life work properly expose a lot of mums to the risk of burn out.

Challenges today are tougher than ever before

There’s the known issues of being a working mum, most being  down to  children being a 24/7 commitment who just don’t understand or respect working hours. Things like kids being ill, last minute childcare issues and unavoidable appointments in working hours are most common.

But today, mums also have to cope with many other factors

increased levels of project management and emotional labour requirements at home

pressure to provide 7 days a week structured & scheduled activites for the children

peer pressure to prove you’re a good mum, like have the best birthday party or make the best cake or put on the best play date

delayed independence for children compared to earlier generations leaving mums to be responsible for their children for longer

an epidemic of childhood mental health issues

increase in the number of children being diagnosed with aditional needs

primary schools in particular expecting huge levels of participation from parents

strict expectations and judgement of how a mum should look and act

social media and other society pressures

dealing with modern age issues such as screen time, online abuse, bullying and even grooming

And if that’s not enough to deal with, women in general have a tendency to be really tough on themselves and carry around a ton of negative thoughts in their head each and every day

Statistics

Sometimes the stats tell a story all on their own

  • £28bn. According to a study from Axa and Cebr this is what burnout costs UK business each year
  • Statistics on this vary of course and the real figure could be as high as £52bn
  • 1 in 7 people experience mental health problems in the workplace according to the Mental Health Foundation in the UK
  • One third of women face burnout at work compared to one quarter of men
  • While both rates are too high, the higher women’s rate is likely due to the invisible mental health load of family/domestic duties alongside the emotional labour burden
  • 79% of UK employees experience work-related stress
  • 20% of employees say their job negatively affects their mental health
  • Around £6bn of the loss is through sick days due to stress
  • Burnout takes a toll on mental well-being contributing to anxiety, depression and other mental health issues
  • Chronic stress and burnout often result in more sick days and higher absenteeism rates
  • Burnout can lead to diminshed performance as exhausted employees struggle to stay focused and motivated
  • Employees experiencing burnout are more likely to seek employment elsewhere, leading to higher turnover rates and recruitment costs

Your company can help the mums in your organisation avoid burn out. Through the right policies and wellbeing strategies supported by access to effective tools and support, mums can regain their confidence, sense of calm and lead healthier and happier lives. Better for them, their family and your organisation.

Introducing Work Life Mastery

Work Life Mastery is designed to tackle the specific needs of a working mum transforming her from the person she is now, barely surviving, overwhelmed and stressed to a happily thriving individual and mum. With a clear sense of purpose. Knowing who she is and where her boundaries lie. Able to act quickly and confidently. Happy. Healthy. With the tools she needs to manage her full life with less stress and more control. More productive at work, happier at home, more present in everything she does.

Work life mastery works where work life balance never can. You simply cannot balance too much. Too many things to do each day. Too many requests and pulls on too little time. Too much time spent listening to negative thoughts. If you can’t simply balance it all, then becoming a master at running the crazy life of a working mum is the way to avoid burnout.

4 easy steps, 1 massive transformation

emergency actions to relieve the most urgent pressures, create space & immediate results

more confidence and better decision making by reconnecting with the girl within and rediscovering true values, passions, vision and purpose

more productive in all areas of life through effective goal setting and learning how to use the tools to stay on track to achieve them

1:1 support to make ensure the ups and downs, pitfalls and insecurities don’t get in the way of the deep transformation needed

mindset upgrades to ensure the deep work is done to create lasting change

Most solutions offered to working mums do little to solve the actual issues they face

Stand out from other organisations and offer something that will make a real difference

Often organisations wait until there’s a problem. Until the mum is signed off sick. Or their performance is slipping at work. Sick pay bills are mounting. Costs to cover stand in resource. Occupationsl health. The standard CBT offering.

With work life mastery you have the opportunity to offer a solution that actually works to all the mums in your organisation

Jo, Work Life Mastery Coach

Jo has literally been there and done that when it comes to burn out in the corporate world.

She knows how easy it is to miss the signs as a mum. That mums are  so busy running around worrying about everyone else, focused on getting through the huge to list of the day, and burdened by negative thought patterns, it’s often too late to stop the burn out by the time it becomes obvious enough for a mum to notice.

Jo brings:

N

UNDERSTANDING OF THE CORPORATE WORLD

Having worked in it for 25 years, she understands the environment, the unique challenges and the need to balance organisation needs with individual needs

N

REAL LIFE EXPERTISE

Expertise that can guide and shape your wellbeing strategy, support exisiting forums, run workshops and provide group and 1:1 support following the work life mastery method.

N

PASSION TO HELP

Having been the working mum who burnt out in the corporate world and lost years of her life recovering, Jo brings a determined passion to help other mums avoid going through the same thing.

Bringing Jo into your organisation teaching and coaching the work life mastery method will empower your mum employees and help them stay healthy, happy and productive

Jo is a very caring person and a good listener and we have built up a great rapport. She’s able to analyse difficult situations and life scenarios and to get to the crux of the matter.

Facing up to difficult situations and changing ingrained life behaviours can be draining and hard work and Jo is very intuitive about when to push things forward and when to provide a compassionate response so that you’re ready to reflect and prepare for the next steps.

Jo has been able to identify emotional and functional blocks in my progress towards my goals. Through both my verbal and non-verbal communication she has been able to spot where either I or other people are holding me back. This has allowed her to suggest practical and manageable steps towards my goals.

Where I have struggled, she has been compassionate and supportive and allowed me to reflect on what didn’t go to plan and to explore how I could change the outcome next time. I have been lucky to have Jo’s support and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending her.
